Nikah Services

Family life is a foundation of a healthy and successful society, and marriage is an occasion of great blessing and joy. At Iqra Masjid, we conduct Islamic (religious) marriage ceremonies that are recognised in law.

This page outlines how to book a Nikah at the Masjid and the requirements involved.

Important Points

  • Either the bride or the groom must reside in Edinburgh for the Masjid to undertake the Nikah ceremony.

  • The Nikah organisers reserve the right to decline a request on behalf of the Masjid. This is rare and will not occur if the application is completed correctly and all requested information is provided.

  • The Nikah ceremony is a significant and sacred step. The Masjid places great emphasis on ensuring the approval of parents or next of kin.

  • We recommend making a booking at least 3 weeks before your planned date.

Information Required Before the Nikah

To proceed with the Nikah, we require a fully completed Nikah application form along with the following documents:

  • Civil Marriage Certificate
The Masjid will not issue an Islamic Nikah Certificate unless the original Civil Marriage Certificate is presented.

  • Date of Nikah
    Your preferred ceremony date.

  • Preferred Time
We will do our best to accommodate your preferred time, though availability cannot always be guaranteed.

  • Birth Certificates
For both the bride and groom.
If names have changed, the original Deed Poll must be provided.

  • For Divorcees:
Decree Absolute and valid Islamic Talaq documentation.

  • For Widows/Widowers:
The death certificate of the former spouse.
